| Grandma's best cutout cookies | | My little granddaughter spent the weekend with me and we baked cutout cookies. This is my favorite recipe. They are quick to mix....no refrigeration and they are yummy
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
pinch of salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 cup butter
Mix above ingred. as you would for a pie crust.
Mix 2 well beaten eggss with one cup sugar and add to the above mixture. Roll thin and cut with cutters. Frost and decorate! You can also us a cookie press if desired. | |

| The defeat of victory | | Summer time, oh the joy! Three months of no homework, no school and getting to stay up late playing outside to finish those adventures which always seemed to be interrupted by moms everywhere hollering out the back door that it was dinnertime because during the school year, dinnertime meant eat, finish homework, have a bath and off to bed for school the next day. Many a fine game of hide and seek had been put on hold to be forgotten by the next evening when our young minds found other things to occupy us. | | creative ways of recycling used boxes | | Can you share your creative ways of recycling used boxes? I have made organizers and other containers out of used boxes. It's just a matter of cutting the dimensions of the box and gluing the pieces together. Then you can use paint or colorful papers to cover the box. I also use cute cutouts and paste them on the box.scape out the back way through the woods and run home since I had to be picked up and dropped off by my parents now. | Do You Decoupage? | | I like to decoupage things. I love crafting and it is just calming for me on a hectic day. I just love making things to give as gifts or just keep for my own little trinkets. So what have/do you decoupaged? If you don't know what decoupage is then maybe this will help:Decoupage is the art of decorating an object by gluing colored paper cutouts onto it in combination with special paint effects, gold leaf, etc. Commonly an object like a small box or an item of furniture is covered by cutouts from magazines or from purpose-manufactured papers. Each layer is sealed with varnishes (often multiple coats) until the "stuck on" appearance disappears and the result looks like painting or inlay work. The traditional technique used 30-40 layers of varnish which were then sanded to a polished finish. This was known in 18th century England as The Art of Japanning after its presumed origins.
You can decoupage many things if you have a water stained wall or a scratched up piece of furniture, photograph albums, plates, ceramics, shelving, frames, mirrors. The list has enough possibilities and alot of fun to book and makes a great weekend project or... | |
| | Flobots Discussion | | The second release from Denver based alternative/indie/rap group is certainly an interesting release from a group that does a few different things fairly well. The group themselves is comprised of the standard rock fare (guitarist, bassist and drummer) as well as a trumpet player(trumpeter??) and violinist. These latter are a huge asset to the flobots, giving them style and substance. All in all this album has stood out for me in a number of good ways, as well as a few bad.The albums opener begins with a violin piece followed by half rapped, half spoken lyrics about America's obsession with looks, among other things:
There's a war going on for your mind/Media mavens mount surgical strikes from/trapper keeper collages and online magazine racks/Cover girl cutouts/throw up pop-up ads/Infecting victims with silicone shrapnel
This is actually quite a nice intro to the album, giving you a feel for what the Flobots are all about without giving away to much.The next track 'Mayday!!!' is possibly my favorite track on the album. The song has a good beat to it which is supplemented by the guitar. All the while the violin is playing in the background, with the trumpet interspersed... | |

| Making a Gingerbread House | | I had made Gingerbread Men cookies for my son's school party this Friday and decided to make a double batch of dough to make a house for us..I have the cutouts and will put it together tomorrow and then will decorate it on Thursday. I made one years ago, but it didn't turn out because I didn't know about allowing the pieces to harden before assembling and that after putting it together to allow the icing to harden 24 hours before decorating. But this time I did my homework and hopefully I will have a cool Gingerbread House by this weekend..I will take pictures and share when I can.
Have you made a Gingerbread House before? And good tips on making one that I may not know of? Do you have and good ideas for decorating? So far all I have are candy canes, but if I can will get more decorations later this week... | |
| | Has Anyone Ever Heard Of Wallies? | | They're really cool thing of the day! They're wallpaper cutouts that you can decorate the walls of your home and they're washable and removeable. I have a set of 24 ladybugs to go into my kitchen however, I want white daisies too to go with the ladybugs because that's the theme in my kitchen but I can not find the white daisies anywhere. I can find gerber daisies but it's sooooo not what I want and gerber daisies won't go with the rest of my daisies. Soooo my question is, do you know where I can find white daisies wallies? I've had the ladybug wallies for quite a while now.... about a year and a half and would so love to put them on my wall FINALLY.... lol Below is a picture of the ladybug wallies I have. They're so cute!! I want to put closed wing ladybug then an open winged ladybug then a white daisy and continue on like that. What do you think? Do you think that would be pretty and not too much of one thing or the other? | Help me find out if I am justified or not. | | I am convinced that I need a Cricut. It is a craft cutting maching. It cuts letters and shapes out of paper and vinyl. I saw it and liked it and for the last little bit I have been thinging of ways that it could simplify my life, save me money, or just be fun. It is $300 which is a ton. My hubby said I can buy it but he knows I would never buy anything like this with out thinking it through. I was thinking we could put some letters on the walls instead of painting, since I dont have much of a steady hand. I can buy old furniture for the kids and then put cutouts on them to decorate them like more expensive pieces. We can make cards and tags for holidays. Is this ever possibly going to save me as much as I am spending on it? | |
| | What is your favorite christmas cookie to bake? | | I am a cookie bakery since I was 10 and have lots of favorites. But I'd have to choose Polka Daters as my favorite as those are the ones my mom made for her christmas parties and they are a dark chocolate cookie bar and sprinkled with powder sugar and theyjust looked heavenly on her 3-tier silver cookie tray and no christmas party was complete without her Polka Daters (chocolate chips and dates and you can't even taste the dates!) My next would be Snickerdoodles because they remind me of my daughter - they are her favorites and she is so happy when I bake her a huge jar full! And for me, My favs are gingerbread cutouts. A cup of hot tea and heaven is in my kitchen!
