Talk about the party you're planning!
Did you indulge on Fat Tuesday?
I grew up Catholic, and even though I don't associate with any organized religion anymore, I have a deep sentimentality for Lent. In fact, I usually still give up certain vices during Lent, mainly because in our indulgent and excessive culture I believe it does me good to consciously go without for spiritual reasons. I fast regularly, as well. So, the original question: Mylotters, did you indulge on Fat Tuesday? And if you're practicing, what are you giving up for Lent?? I'm pregnant, so the fun stuff is already gone. No caffeine, very little chocolate, no soda, no junk food, no cigarettes, no alcohol, no street drugs;-)... I'm virtually an ascetic! What about you?
Tomorrow is Fat Tuesday!
Happy Mardi Gras, everyone! I live in Louisiana, but won't be going to New Orleans to celebrate this year, though we've caught some local parades in our town. Has anyone here ever been to New Orleans, Mobile, Grand Isle, etc to celebrate? Did you have a good time, or swore never to go back? Come share your Mardi Gras stories here.

My Polish Nephew Wants some Punchkis!
I want to make some Punchkis for myself and my polish nephew. I have never tried these before, and am wondering if they are hard to make? I would like to try my hand at making some homemade punchkis. I wonder if it possible to make a healthy version of them, too, perhaps with wheat flour? That might go against the tradition or traditional recipe though, and I don't want to change the punchki. I only want to try it. To me, the traidtional punchki reminds me of a doughnut or a chinese mooncake with sweet fililng inside! Hmm..
Happy Paczki Day
* or* Happy Fat Tuesday (for all my non-Polish friends)[em]wink[/em] Don't forget to buy as many Paczki as you can from your local Polish bakery. Help keep them in business[em]thumbup[/em] Thank you
Mardi Gras 2009
Do you have any plans for Fat Tuesday? I have never celebrated Mardi Gras, and I feel like this year I am old enough toreally enjoy this holiday. Do you have ideas? I am in Texas, so New Orleans isn't too far, but I am not sure how expensive that would be.
Are you Celebrating Mardi Gras?
Happy Fat Tuesday, everyone! I'm celebrating in style this year... not in NOLA itself, but lots of other things. We went all out this year and bought masks, beads, a King Cake, decorations, etc. It's been great! We already had one celebration with the cake and Po' Boy sandwiches on Sunday (and red beans & rice) and I made Jambalaya for tonight's dinner and had my Doughtnut Day doughnut this morning.I even caught one of the Mardi Gras parades on a New Orleans live cam this afternoon. What are you doing to celebrate this fun event?
shrove tuesday
do you go out on shrove tuesday,or do you choose to spend it quietly indoors.for me it makes no difference at all.if the cat needs food then i will go and get it,whatever the day, what about you?how do you feel about this day.
Happy Mardi Gras!
Yes, folks, it's Mardi Gras season again. This Tuesday is Fat Tuesday, and all insanity is going to break free once again.[em]cheering[/em] If you celebrate Mardi Gras, what do you normally do? Go to parades? Hang out with friends far away from the crowds and just throw beads at each other?[em]rasp[/em] I normally try to go to one or two parades, just to see what sort of good things are being flung from each float. lol What about you?
Call From One Of My Daughters Today - Too Sweet To Not Share
Today was my birthday, and it was not one that I had been looking forward to. I turned 59; and in my mind, that is about the same as saying I turned 60. Now, to a lot of people that is "Just the Prime"; and I would agree. In my case though, at 60 I will be the oldest living person that I know of in my family ancestry. I try not to be a fatalist; but this is really looming heavily over me since my health is not the best as it is. I had told all of my family that I just wanted the day to pass unacknowledged. It's just too scary for me to deal with right now. I just want to celebrate all of the other February birthdays we have: One daughter on the 10th, one daughter on the 25th, one daughter on the 12th, and one grandson on the 15th. That is more than enough to keep me deliriously happy (not to mention broke!)LOL!This evening I received a call from one of my daughters. When I answered she just said, "Happy Fat Tuesday, Momma!" How much sweeter does it get?~Donna
