Talk about the party you're planning!
Brag a little....What was your best thrift/second-hand/Consignment store find?
I love browsing through thrift/second-hand/consignment stores. I've gotten some really good finds. I think my two favorites were a brand new pair of J.Crew pants...with the tags still on, and a big ol' pink princess costume dress! I actually wore the princess dress to a Mardi Gras party recently, and I wear the J.Crew pants to work all the time. What are your favorite or best thrift/second-hand/consignment store finds?
What is Mardi Gras all about?
My mother and I were just talking, and I told her I wanted to go to Mardi Gras this year. Of course she dissed it as nothing but reckless partying, but I am still curious as to what is the Mardi Gras celebration all about. I have never been to New Orleans, and think it would be fun to see for myself. Have you ever been to Mardi Gras? I know bright jewel colors in the beads and face masks are associated with it, but beyond that, I don't know much about it. I think it would be cool to experience, too.
Happy Mardi Gras!
Yes, folks, it's Mardi Gras season again. This Tuesday is Fat Tuesday, and all insanity is going to break free once again.[em]cheering[/em] If you celebrate Mardi Gras, what do you normally do? Go to parades? Hang out with friends far away from the crowds and just throw beads at each other?[em]rasp[/em] I normally try to go to one or two parades, just to see what sort of good things are being flung from each float. lol What about you?
Mardi Gras
I don't know, but I think this year might by the year to go to Mardi Gras. After the superbowl victory, I am sure New Orleans have ALOT to celebrate. It could be possible pandemonium, but something to remember. What do you think?
New Orleans has "Mardi Gras"... Detroit has the "Jobie Nooner"....
It has been going on for years... something I have never participated in... not even in my single days... although I wasnt much of a boater...[em]lol[/em] There is one friday in June every year where people will take the day off of work, or leave early ....hence the "jobie nooner" and by lunch time Lake St Clair is filled with rows of boats and very drunk people parked and walking around... now why do I compare this to Mardi Gras... because women get there beads there pretty much the same way.... You will see lots of T & A... and I dont mean Trees and Air...[em]lol[/em][em]whistle[/em]Is there something like this that happens around your area one day a year that you hear of every year or even participate??
what do you think of mardi gras as debut theme?
A friend of mine is celebrating her debut in a big way two months from now. She wants to have a mardi gras theme for her debut, you know, costumes, drums, dancers, etc. Do you think this is going to be a good theme? She is asking for our opinions and we are divided in this. Some say it is not in congruence with the occasion which is a debut. Others say it's okey because of the funfare and festivities involved. What do you think?
Mardi Gras a day late.
Our youth minister at church is planning a shrimp boil before church tonight for the teens. I'm looking forward to it. It usually includes shrimp, corn-on-the-cob, new potatoes and sausage. And he adds spices, sometimes a little hot for me. He used to live in New Orleans and enjoys a Mardi Gras celebration even if we are having it on Ash Wednesday.
Mardi Gras 2009
I usually avoid the madness and stay indoors but I had to go to Frenchman Street today so I decided to take some pictures on the way back. I can only figure out how to add one photo so I guess I will have to start a bunch of discussions to get them all in. This one was taken from inside the car as I was fighting to get through the traffic and make it back to my side of town. A Mardi Gras Indian procession was the hold up in this case and since there was no way to pull over and get better pix all I have are shots of the crowd from behind mostly.
Economy doesn’t dampen Mardi Gras festivities, can you explain this?
Tourist interest s and new Orleans Officials are saying that they don’t expect that the economic downturn will affect Mardi Gras and they still expect large crowds .Their argument ironically is supported by the fact that all hotel rooms are nearly full.I find this somewhat surprising as I was thinking that persons would be prioritizing and somehow entertainment would get the smallest chunk of that budget but it seems that there are persons hell bent on defying the odds. How do you account for these unusual facts, I have some ideas but I would like to hear yours
What is Mardi Gras all about?
Hi there! I have a few questions about Mardi Gras. I always hear about the carnivals and the celebrations that happen during Mardi Gras but I've never understood what it's all about. I've heard that it's supposed to be some kind of last hoorah before the season of Lent. Is that really what it is about? I've never been to one and I'd like to know more about the celebration.Another thing, I heard on the radio that people flash other people for food during the celebration. Is that true?I'd like to hear more about the things that happen during Mardi Gras and any experiences of people who have gone or who have some information about it.Thanks!
